  22. The SoundBlaster Live has one particularly GREAT feature - the ability to use your main system RAM to hold samples instead of having to put memory on the card.  That means you can use much BIGGER SoundFonts - The result?á Better sounds!

  24. Melody Machine's BIG SoundFonts are optimised for the SoundBlaster Live, but should work fine on other SoundFont compatible cards such as the AWE32 and AWE64 that have sufficient onboard memory.

  26. What Are BIG SoundFonts?

Many instrument sounds require a "looped" sample.á The length of the loop has a major impact on the overall quality of the sound.á A short loop requires less memory, but often results in a rather dull lifeless sound.á A longer loop can provide a much richer, more complex, dynamic and evolving sound.  Another factor that has a big impact on overall sound quality is the number of "multi-samples" used.  More multi-samples give better quality but use more space.  Many SoundFont authors pack numerous instruments into a mere 2MB, 4MB, or 8MB of space and do so by limiting sample length and the number of multi-samples per instrument.  The samples used in our SoundFonts are longer.  We often use individual samples of 1MB or more in size.  Many are in stereo and are multi-sampled as required.  ALL are professionally edited, looped and digitally optimised.  Each BIG SoundFont bank contains several variations of each instrument using different filter, envelope and modulation settings.  Many of our samples are brand new sounds, taken from modern synthesizers including the Yamaha EX5, Korg Prophecy, Korg WaveStation and Novation BassStation.  Others are taken from our in-house sample library, from classic synths and other instruments.  You can download free samples of our BIG SoundFonts at www.melodymachine.com
